Modified Whip and Tongue Graft

The whip and tongue graft is best suited when the scion and root stock have similar diameters. I have a scion wood with about half of the diameter of the root stock. To use the whip and tongue with different diameter, I have two choices: align the scion on one size or make off the center cut. I decided to use the later method since the diameters of the root stock is much bigger than the scion wood.

First cut on the root stock
Make on the root stock. This cut will be rather shallow rather than cutting all the way trough.
2nd Cut on the scrion
Make the cut on the scion wood matching the shallow cut on the root stock
Create a notch on the initial cut on the rook stock
Cut a similar notch on the scion matching the notch on the root stock
Insert the scion wood to the root stock with the notch interlock each other
Tie the graft with grafting tape and parafilm. Cover the graft with aluminum foil to avoid overhead from the sun.
