Spider Mites are members of the Acari family. The generally live on the underside of the leaves of fig trees where they puncturing the plant cell and causes damage to the tissue. They also form protective silk webs. They are usually less than 1mm in size and in orange color.
The brown patches appear on the leave when the tree is infested with spider mites. Sometime, they can be confused with rust. look underneath of the leaves, you might see tiny spots and webs.
To treat the spider mites, you can mist the leave thoroughly with neem old and/or intertidal soap by mixing 1 tablespoon of neem oil with one quarter of water.
Fig Mosaic Disease is a complex viral disease which consists of 12 different Fig Mosaic Emaravirus (FMV). Systems include foliar chlorosis, deformation and mosaic pattern. FMD is disseminated by vegetative propagation, seed transmission and spider mites. FMD are very prevalent. Most fig trees were infected by some form of FMV, particularly young tree. However, they can typically fight it off when the tree matures.
