Chicago Hardy is one of the most cold hardy variety and commonly available in big chain gardening center. It’s cold hardy to 10 degree and can be grown in USDA zone 5- 10. Although they are cold hardy, they can still die back to the ground and bounce back from the freeze damage and grow new fruit on the new wood.
Chicago Hardy is a very reliable and productive variety. it bears small figs (about 15 to 20 gram) with purple skin and brown/reddish pulp. It has mild sweet the light berry flavor when fully ripe. One good attribute that it is popular to the northern grower is the short ripening time. It takes Chicago Hardy fig 60-70 days from forming figlets to fully ripe.
