Rooting for Short Cuttings

It’s a general impression that four is the ideal number of nodes for rotting cutting and the minimum is three. The reason is that the roots are usually grow around the nodes. It’s a good idea to burry multiple nodes under the rooting media to ensure that the roots can grow from either node. It’s certainly possible to root the fig cuttings with two nodes with one node for growing roots and the other one for the leaves. Would it be possible to root the cuttings with one node with both roots and leaves growing from the same node?

I received extra cuttings from the fig bid sellers: two Raspberry latte, one improved Celeste, one LSU Scott Black, one Italian Honey and one LSU Champion. I would like to use those for my experiments. Different from my regular rooting media (soil conditioner + Promix BX + perlite), I am using coco coir this time. Instead of using 32 oz deli container, I am using the shoe box size storage bin.

Four weeks update: There are plenty of root forming from the cuttings. The leave buds are also pushing out as well. I decided to move them into the humidity bin as the shoe box is too short to allow the leaves to grow up. I will keep them in the humidity bin for another three weeks to have stronger root growth before up-potting.

Fix weeks update: I finally decide to pot them. I am worry about their roots got too long and all tangle up. I dig them out from the bottom using a long tweezer and gently lift them and tap on the cuttings to separate the roots from the wet coco coir. All cuttings were rooted, not exception, include one node and two nodes cuttings, even the tiny cuttings. Out of 19 cuttings, i up potted 12 of them to either 24 oz or 32 oz cups and 7 going back to the humidity bin to continue to root.
